Somalia:Al-Shabab imposes authoritarian veil rules in Jowhar town .

The administration of Al-Shabab Islamists hardliners in the town of Jowhar some 90km east of the Somali capital Mogadishu has on Wednesday issued a decree written on that all women whether capable or not capable to cover their entire bodies with veil.

Sheikh Ali Gedi the deputy of commander of Al-Shabab in the middle shabelle region in southern Somalia has ordered that all women living in the town of Jowhar, the headquarters of middle shabelle region and its surrounding areas to sew for themselves veils which can cover the entire of their bodies within a period of 10 days with no extra day. The deputy commander of Al-Shabbab has also added that any woman who turns deaf ears to issued statement will face the music (harsh penalty)

“What we are needed from is to deliver the right religious message to the people and whoever neglects our statements will see the consequence in a broad daylight” Said Sheikh Ali Gedi. Women can unveil themselves in a private place where there are only people of their same gender.

Al-Shaba has earlier imposed similar rules on women in the various regions in Somali whether they can afford or not, and punish any women they see strolling on the streets unveiled.

So thus women have either to remain in indoors or meet the demands of Al-Shabab.
