Somali
government calls upon WFP to operate in the Government-
held lands
Nairobi (waagacusub) Somali Transitional federal Government
has called on WFP, UN ‘s World food program agency to
operate in the areas under the control of Somali Government
after the agency failed to continue its humanitarian
activities in the zones ruled by opposition groups,
including Al-Shabab Islamists rebels strongly battling
to down the Somalia’s west backed government.
In a press gathering in the country’s capital, Mogadishu
, defence state minister of Somali government, Sheikh
Yusuf Mohamed Siyad popularly known as “Inda-Adde” stated
that Al-shabab’s WFP announcement ban issued on Sunday
wasn’t useful to the crack down on humanitarian crisis
in the country and doesn’t meet the assistance of Somali
vulnerable people in displacement.
The defence state minister pointed the ban unjustifiable
and unacceptable in terms of the needs of the people
suffering in the IDPs camps in the south and centre
of the country and called upon WFP to continue humanitarian
operations that the agency used to conduct in the south
of Somalia .
Sheikh Yuusuf Inda-Adde has signaled WFP to operate
in the Somali government controlled areas if it can’t
execute its humanitarian mission and assistance in Al-shabab
ruled situations.
The remarks of Somali government for calling upon WFP
to carry out humanitarian operations in the government
held territory coincided with the announcement prohibit
that Al-Shabab has imposed on WFP on Sunday to operate
in the south and centre of Somalia under the group’s
control.
